Press release

On August 16, at 9:30 p.m., Klaipėda Sculpture Park will transform into a unique art stage – an impressive free performance “Misterija REX” dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis will take place. Klaipėda State Musical Theatre (KVMT) invites city residents and guests to immerse themselves in a synthesis of dance, music, and light inspired by the work of the brilliant Lithuanian artist.

The highlight of the Klaipėda Festival will be six choreographic miniatures by the KVMT ballet company dancers, inspired by Čiurlionis’ paintings and enriched with expressive light projections. In the unique setting of Sculpture Park, which is steeped in layers of history, memory, and artistic spirit, a visual vision of movement will unfold – offering the audience an unforgettable artistic experience.

“We invite everyone to spend this summer evening in a special way – with art, with Čiurlionis, and with the talented KVMT artists creating today. Misterija REX is an extraordinary contemporary artistic interpretation, created out of respect for the creator and the desire to inspire the audience. This performance will be a gift to the city, its people, and its guests – a heartfelt contribution by artists to the living culture of the city. We encourage you to boldly immerse yourself in the transformations of Čiurlionis’ spirit, conveyed through the harmony of dance, music, and light in a non-traditional yet deeply fitting space for Čiurlionis’ creative essence,” invites KVMT director Goda Giedraitytė.

In Misterija REX, the creativity of the ballet troupe dancers will be showcased by Roman Semenenko and Daria Verovka (Ukraine), Elly Bruno and Aurora Ruvoletto (Italy), Bernat Blay Bosch (Spain), and Mantas Ūsas (Lithuania). Each dancer has created an original dance miniature based on a chosen Čiurlionis painting. The choreographic miniatures “Messenger of Life,” “Fairy Tale II,” “The Last Flash of Light,” “Echoes of the Invisible,” “Landscapes of Thought,”and “Inner Glance” convey the unique messages of the dancers and choreographers, intertwining Čiurlionis’ symbols, moods, and the reflections of contemporary life.

The choreographers collaborated closely with composers Yana Shliabanska (Ukraine), Dylan Iuliano (Italy), Kristijonas Lučinskas, Donatas Bielkauskas, Jonas Raudonius, and Andrius Stakelė (Lithuania). The atmosphere of the performance will be created by director Karina Novikova and lighting designer Edvardas Osinskis – their efforts will merge movement, sound, visuals, and the environment into one.

Organized for the fifth year, the Klaipėda Festival is expanding the city’s cultural map by inviting audiences to artistic events in unexpected urban spaces. The event in Sculpture Park will be the festival’s final highlight.

On August 16, at 9:30 p.m., let us meet under the summer sky – in Sculpture Park. Allow yourself to experience a unique fusion of dance and music, feel the breath of Čiurlionis’ paintings, and enrich your evening with the magic of art.
