Tonight, the European Film Academy revealed the winners of the 38th European Film Awards at the festive award ceremony at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin in front of 1.000 international guests celebrating the best of European cinema. With six awards, the film SENTIMENTAL VALUE (European Film, European Director, European Screenwriter, European Actress, European Actor, European Composer (Original Score)) was the winner with most awards. The show was distributed through 49 broadcast and livestream partners from 29 countries across Europe. For the first time, the awards show took place more prominently in the international awards season just after the Golden Globes and during the Oscar nomination voting period. The awards show is the glamorous highlight and conclusion of the European Award Season that kicked off in November. Under the header “why do we love cinema?” the show was an artistic experience, co-created by Irish-Scottish filmmaker Mark Cousins together with the creative team of the Academy, German film composer Dascha Dauenhauer and theatre director Robert Lehniger

European Film:
WINNER: SENTIMENTAL VALUE (AFFEKSJONSVERDI) (Norway, France, Denmark, Germany, Sweden) – directed by Joachim Trier.

European Documentary:
WINNER: FIUME O MORTE! (Croatia, Slovenia, Italy), directed by Igor Bezinović

European Animated Feature Film:

WINNER: ARCO (France), directed by Ugo Bienvenu

European Director:
WINNER: Joachim Trier for SENTIMENTAL VALUE (AFFEKSJONSVERDI)

European Actress:
WINNER: Renate Reinsve in SENTIMENTAL VALUE

European Actor:
WINNER: Stellan Skarsgård in SENTIMENTAL VALUE

European Screenwriter:
WINNER: Eskil Vogt & Joachim Trier for SENTIMENTAL VALUE (AFFEKSJONSVERDI)

European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI:
This award is presented in co-operation with FIPRESCI, the International Federation of Film Critics, to a director for the first full-length fiction film.
WINNER: ON FALLING (United Kingdom, Portugal), directed by Laura Carreira

European Young Audience Award:
WINNER: SIBLINGS (LA VITA DA GRANDI) (Italy) by directed Greta Scarano

European Casting Director

European Short Film – Prix Vimeo
WINNER: CITY OF POETS directed by Sara Rajaei (Netherlands)

The winners of the categories European Lifetime Achievement Award (Liv Ullmann), European Achievement in World Cinema Award (Alice Rohrwacher) and Eurimages International Co-Production Award (Maren Ade, Jonas Dornbach, Janine Jackowski) have already been announced beforehand.
