“What remains when you cross a border? Who do you become in a new reality?”

Three years ago, first-year student Veronika, studying at the Kyiv Academy of Arts, could never have imagined—even in a nightmare—how drastically her life would change overnight. She had to gather only the most essential belongings and flee with her family. Flee to a new life. Because the old one had been shattered by Russian bullets.

Today, Veronika, now a third-year student at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, shares her experiences in a solo exhibition at the T.2 Gallery. The young artist’s experience of war is encapsulated in her works, showcased in the exhibition “AttRibuTes.” “I arrived in Vilnius as a child, but it feels like I grew up overnight. In a short time, I went through more than some do in an entire lifetime. I have poured my experience into my works, which I am exhibiting in this show—because for an artist, it is often easier to speak through art than with words.”

Veronika Synenko, born in 2004 in Kyiv, Ukraine, is a young artist currently living in Vilnius. Forced to interrupt her studies at the Kyiv National Academy of Arts (NAFAA) due to the war, she successfully continues her education at the Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA). Veronika’s works have been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Ukraine and Lithuania, including “War” at a gallery in Kyiv, Center Art Gallery in Kyiv, Painting Corridor Gallery in Vilnius, and the Institute of Modern Art Studies in Kyiv. She is also a member of the artist duo “V.P.V.P.,” which has contributed to various creative projects.
